From Megan Sheets of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln:
For two summers I held a paid internship with Harris Corporation of Omaha, an experience which I thoroughly enjoyed. The company focuses primarily on developing information technology for the government. Personally, I was working on a project that dealt with Air Force weather satellites. This included the programming of satellites to properly interpret the data, and then dealing with the incoming data as far as organizing, electronically distributing to different military bases, and storing. Though the computer world often lacks many women employees, I felt that the environment was very friendly and supportive. I highly recommend that students who are interested in the applied uses of mathematics and computer science intern with a company. It is very rewarding to be able to apply the knowledge you've obtained to a real project.
