Statistics in the Pharmaceutical Industry
Brian J. Fergen
From discovery to development to marketing, the Pharmaceutical Industry utilizes statistical methods to ensure the products developed are safe and effective, are successfully launched into the marketplace, and are successfully positioned against new products launched into the market. The application of statistical methods is driven by the need for unbiased research outcomes delivered in a timely manner with focus on the pertinent research questions. The driving force behind the use of the methods are the statisticians in the industry, who are trained in experimental design, epidemiology, data mining and many other statistical methods. In this presentation, we provide information on the application of statistical methods in the Pharmaceutical Industry through examples of "real-world" situations, and discuss the role of a biometrician in a pharmaceutical industry.
