The Department of Mathematics at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln invites Nebraska high school seniors to apply for the prestigious Dean H. and Floreen G. Eastman Memorial Scholarships in Mathematics. The department awards at least five of these prestigious $16,000, 4-year scholarships to its freshman majors each year. This scholarship includes $4,000 per year for 4 years that will be awarded to seniors who expect to become UNL freshman in Fall 2018.
Each recipient must be a graduate of a Nebraska high school, must be enrolled as a full-time student in the College of Arts and Sciences at UNL with a major in mathematics, must maintain satisfactory progress toward a degree in mathematics and must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 each academic year. Students in the Engineering College are not eligible.
Application and Selection
To be considered for the Eastman Scholarship, candidates should have complete admission application materials on file in the UNL Office of Admissions (application for admission, ACT/SAT test scores, official high school transcript and application fee for full consideration).
Interested students must submit the following:
- A letter of application which includes:
- Current address with zip code
- Phone number
- Email Address
- High school transcript (including ACT/SAT scores),
- A short essay of the student's interests and experiences in mathematics
- And two letters of recommendation.
The application must also include the following statement:"I understand that to receive the Eastman Scholarship I must be enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences degree program with at least one major in Mathematics."
The letters should be from people qualified to comment on the student's academic abilities, accomplishments and potential in mathematics. For full consideration, all materials should be sent by the deadline below to:
