Purpose and Participants

Class Meeting

The seminar will meet once every two weeks for two hours.

Participants

Twenty advanced doctoral students selected from the Departments of Communication Studies, English, Mathematics and Statistics, and Sociology.

Purpose

This is the second course in a three-semester Preparing Future Faculty program that introduces advanced graduate students to various faculty roles. Seminar participants interact with faculty from surrounding campuses, prepare teaching portfolios, present job talks, and engage in mock interviews. They discuss teaching and research expectations, tenure and promotion standards, campus life, and faculty governance at different types of colleges and universities.

Grades

Grades are assigned on a pass/no pass basis. To pass the student must complete the list of requirements.

Requirements

1. Attendance and active participation in 990B seminar.

2. Visit and engage in mentoring activities at partner campuses. Each participant is expected to visit partner campuses two to six times a semester.

3. Complete course readings.
