Believe in yourself.
Have high expectations. Set
goals. In the future world of work, having clear personal
goals will be
more important than ever. Employment conditions are becoming
increasingly
complex and you may have several careers during your work life. You
can combine
jobs, and even hobbies, as you create useful and meaningful ways to
earn a
living.
What's the formula
for
success?
Find out how one student's fascination
with horses
helped her choose a career in veterinary medicine.
Get involved.
By participating in after-school and weekend activities, you'll learn
what
kinds of people take jobs in different occupations, what daily
routines are
like, and what training is required. You'll also make valuable
contacts within
the community, should you decide to pursue the career further.
Here
are some
examples:
- Volunteer in a hospital to investigate various fields of
medicine
- Help out at an animal shelter
- Donate time every week at a child care center, food bank or
conservation
project
- If you're interested in a business that does not recruit
volunteers, apply
for an internship
- Do you like sports? Manage a basketball, volleyball or baseball
game and
keep statistics
Who are you?
Start by taking a good look at yourself.
What are your interests?
Focus on
your creativity, community concerns, skills, or desires to help others
- things
that make you feel good - that may also lead to satisfying
work.

interests with
