What's a career path?

Career paths are clusters of occupations grouped together. Many people who work in the same career path not only have similiar occupations, they share similar interests, abilities, and life experiences. Each path includes a variety of occupations that require different abilities and levels of education and training. A career path provides an area of focus along with flexibility and a variety of ideas to pursue.

Career paths are designed for all students. All paths have equal dignity. By selecting a career path, you can prepare for the future.

What are the benefits of career paths?

What if I change my mind?

A career path is not a permanent commitment. As you have new experiences, you will probably learn new things about yourself and may change career paths. If you choose a new career path, discuss your decision with you family and counselor. Together, then, you can adjust your educational plan according to your new career direction.

Which career path is best for me?

The self inventory and career path assessment are guides to help you make a decision about your career path so you can develop an educational plan. Four steps are included in the making and planning process.
  1. Identify your interests, abilities, and life experiences in the self-inventory.

  2. Consider the possible career paths and the occupations in each path in relationship to your interests, abilities, and life experiences in the Career Path Assessment.

  3. Decide which career path seems to fit you best when you check your answers in the KEYS to the Assessment.

  4. Develop an educational plan related to your career path.
