Avery Hall was opened in 1919 as Chemical Hall,
and was renamed Avery Laboratory of Chemistry in
1936. Since its initial construction it has doubled in size
with a 1942 expansion, and has housed the
Departments of Geography and Chemical Engineering,
the College of Journalism, and the Women's Studies
and Judaic Studies programs. Completely renovated
in 2002-2004, it is now home to the Department of
Mathematics and the Department of Computer Science
and Engineering, as well as the offices of the Center
for Science, Mathematics, and Computer Education.
It also houses satellite offices for the Department of
Statistics.
