Math 198: Graphic Adventures


In the Spring of 2010, the Department of Mathematics is offering a course for Freshmen and Sophomores interested in exploring and discovering novel mathematical concepts. The only prerequisites are one semester of calculus and a willingness to think creatively about mathematics.

The topic will be graph theory -- that is, the study of things that look like:

But no background in graph theory is expected, or even desirable!

Challenge: Imagine the graph above represents the cages at a zoo and the paths joining them. Starting at one of the cages on the rim, can you travel through the zoo and visit each cage exactly one time?
