Nonlocal Calculus of Variations and Asymptotically Compatible Schemes

Abstract
We present a mathematical framework of asymptotically compatible (AC) schemes for the discretization of nonlocal variational problems and their local limits. The framework was based on the theory of nonlocal calculus of variations. It provides a way to develop robust discretization algorithms for multiscale problems.
