What Does Biology Have to Do With Food?
 
The Departments of Agronomy, Biology, and Food Science and Technology of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Southeast Community College-Beatrice will team teach a workshop titled, "Teaching High School Biology Using Real, Applied, Current, & Inexpensive Methods". The workshop, for science teachers, will be held June 6, 2002 on the UNL East Campus. Topics to be discussed include genetically modified organisms, food microbiology, food toxicology, food safety and foodborne pathogens, antibiotic resistance, and more. Participants will receive up-to-date information on these issues in addition to written materials, experiments and demonstrations that they can use in their own classrooms. A stipend will be given for the day and participants have the option of receiving one graduate credit hour for their efforts.
