All Girls/All Math Offers Two Activities

All Girls/All Math will offer two different mathematical experiences for high school girls this summer. The first of these is the All Girls/All Math Summer Camp. Two sessions will be offered, June 24-29, 2001, and July 8-13, 2001. Each session will feature weeklong courses in Chaos and Codes taught by UNL Mathematics & Statistics Department faculty Drs. Judy Walker and Gwendolyn Hines and UNL alumni Drs. Lisa Johnson and Krista Taylor. Each session will host an accomplished mathematician guest speaker who will give an interactive presentation related to her area of work. There will also be other guest speakers and fun evening activities. Participants will stay in a campus residence hall under the supervision of a graduate student. Girls entering grades 10-12 in the fall are invited to apply. Fourteen applicants will be selected for each session of the camp. The application deadline is May 1st, 2001.

The second All Girls/All Math experience offered this summer is a two-day workshop called "It's a Math Thing..." Dates for "It's a Math Thing..." are August 3-4, 2001. Any female entering grades 9-12 this fall may attend. The girls will participate in problem sessions run by UNL graduate students and in special-topics sessions taught by UNL faculty. There will also be an evening banquet featuring a panel of guest speakers. The registration deadline for "It's a Math Thing…" is July 5, 2001.
