Educational Weather Websites

"Nebraska Weather and Climate Information Center"
http://www.hprcc.unl.edu/Nebraska

Designed by UNL Professor Ken Dewey, this Internet site contains climate data and climate information for locations across Nebraska. It also includes links providing current weather conditions (radar, satellite, temperatures, forecast maps, etc.). One of the most popular parts of the Nebraska Weather and Climate Internet site is the storm reports and storm photos section. When storms impact the region, (tornadoes, floods, blizzards, etc.) a brief storm report and numerous pictures are posted at the site.

When climate makes the news, such as global warming conferences, special climate sections have been added so that students can read about the science of the climate topic.

In addition to current information, the site devotes a section to historical weather events. For example, Professor Dewey recently created a section devoted to the devastating June 1980 Grand Island tornadoes. The section incorporates news reports and photographs from Professor Dewey's personal collection.

"Weather Internet Sources for Teachers"
http://www.hprcc.unl.edu/nebraska/teachers.html

Professor Dewey developed this site as a result of requests from science teachers. It consists of a compilation of links to weather and climate resources on the Internet. These resources include links to posters, workbooks, weather books, videos, examples of class projects at various schools, activities at science centers around the U.S., interesting climate and weather information sources, and links to federal agencies with a science education mission.
