UNL Offers Dynamic Geometry Course

This summer the UNL Department of Mathematics and Statistics will offer a course for teachers entitled "Topics in Geometry." The instructor is Dr. David Fowler, an Associate Professor of Secondary Mathematics Education at UNL. Dr. Fowler referres to the course content as "dynamic geometry in two and three dimensions." Topics will be selected from traditional Euclidean school geometry, novel problem-solving situations, discrete geometry, polygons and polyhedra. The class will emphasize topics applicable to secondary mathematics curricula. A special feature will be a unit on using the Geometer's Sketchpad(TM) and other tools to create interactive geometry web pages. Teachers taking this course will also have a chance to review a number of new enrichment books from the instructor's collection. Additional information about the course and examples from Geometer's Sketchpad are available at http://www.unl.edu/tcweb/fowler/geoAd1.html.

The course, Math 858T, will meet 9:15 - 10:50 AM, MTWRF, July 16-August 16, on the UNL city campus. For registration information, visit UNL Summer Sessions web site, http://www.unl.edu/summer/ . Questions may be referred to Dr. Fowler at dfowler1@unl.edu.
