Lecture by UNL Professor Dr. Alan Kamil
The Teaching Evolution Lecture Series proudly sponsors a lecture by Dr. Alan Kamil. The event will be held 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 21st, on the UNL City Campus in Bessey Hall room 117. Kamil's lecture will be entitled "What I know, think, and believe about evolution." At Dr. Kamil's talk, you'll learn about...Many misunderstandings and confusions characterize the public debate about evolution. This lecture will address three of these issues: what the word "believe" means, what biologists mean when they say "Evolution is a fact," and the mistaken assertion that natural selection is a random process. About Dr. KamilDr. Alan Kamil is Professor of Biological Sciences and Psychology at UNL and Director of the Cedar Point BIological Station. His research takes a highly evolutionary approach to the experimental study of the cognitive abilities of animals. After obtaining his doctorate at the University of Wisconsin in 1967, Kamil taught at the University of Massachusetts until 1991 when he joined the faculty at UNL. He has also been a visiting professor at the University of California at Berkely, Dalhousie University (Canada), Auckland University (New Zealand) and Macquarie University (Australia). |
