Any ecological system is a dynamic web of species competing
for survival. Competition and predation are two elementary yet fundamental
forces driving all ecosystems. Understanding how these forces shape basic
trophic food chains and webs that contains a minimum number of species is in no
doubt a necessary step towards our ultimate goal, perhaps a too ambitious one,
to unravel ecocomplexity.
