In-class exams/Quizzes

Important dates:

Homework/Quizzes: The assigned homework problems can be found on the here. I may assign additional problems during class hours. I will not grade your work; however, it is very important for your success in the course that you know how to solve all the problems. I will also expect you to read some of the material on your own, for we will not have time to cover everything. Quizzes will be announced at least one class beforehand and each will be worth 10 points. The problems to be looked at  and the dates for the quizzes will be announced here. There will be no make-up quizzes.

General Policies: Exams and quizzes will be closed book and notes. When grading your exam/quiz, I will take into account presentation, including your use of English. You must show all your work to get full credit. No excuse will be accepted for missing the midterm exams. It is impossible to get a make up for the midterm exams. If you have any queries or doubts regarding the grading on the quizzes or exams, please see me immediately. The points on quizzes or exams will not be changed after seven days from the day they are handed back in class. Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated and will result in a failing grade in the course.

How to do well:
Work Hard . This is very tough and extremely fast paced course. The standard expectation in students will spend at least 10-12 hours a week outside class studying and doing homework. Read the material before the lecture. Members of the class are encouraged to study together, but should write out their own solutions to the homework problems. Homework is a major part of the learning process in mathematics, and it is essential that students work out their own problems and do the homework on a regular basis. If you have questions, come talk to me during my office hours.

Disclaimer: The instructor reserves the right to modify the schedules (e.g. office hours, dates of hour exams etc) and procedures announced in this syllabus. Any such changes will be announced in the class. It is the responsibility of the student to keep informed of such things.

Departmental Grading Appeals Policy: Students who believe their academic evaluation has been prejudiced or capricious have recourse for appeals to (in order) the instructor, the departmental chair, the departmental appeals committee and the college appeals committee.
