Apply to RUTE Summer Scholars Program

Who can apply?

  • You must be a high school graduate by the starting date of the First Summer Session. You could have up to one year college credit.
  • Your transcript and letter must show a strong potential for high quality independent work.
  • You must enjoy both biology and mathematics.
  • You must have a lot of intellectual curiosity.
  • We will be looking for a diverse group of students.
  • Because of regulations of the National Science Foundation, all participants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Application Procedure

  1. Print the application form. For best results, set "Page Scaling" to "None" in the Acrobat print dialog box.
  2. Submit the application form to the Math Department office in Avery 203.
  3. Arrange to have a letter of recommendation from a professor or high school teacher of mathematics, biology, or natural resources. This letter can be sent by campus mail or by email to RUTE@math.unl.edu
  4. Submit a copy of your current college or high school transcript. The copy need not be official.
  5. Submit a written essay of no more than 1 page. This can be submitted in hard copy or sent by email. Please address the following:
    • Explain why you are interested in the RUTE Summer Scholars program.
    • Briefly describe one mathematics and one biology course you have taken.
    • Indicate your current plans for college and career.
