All Girls/All Math

The 12th Annual Mathematics Summer Camp for High School Girls

July 20-26, 2008

High school girls are invited to apply for a week of ALL GIRLS/ALL MATH offered at the University of Nebraska. The Summer Mathematics Camp for High School Girls provides a stimulating and supportive environment for girls to develop their mathematical ability and interest. The ALL GIRLS/ALL MATH summer camp has been offered since 1997.

Camp participants, girls grades 10-12, will learn about the exciting mathematics of Chaos and Codes. The girls will work with women mathematics professors and graduate students, and interact with peers who share an interest in mathematics. They stay in a UNL residence hall and are chaperoned by a female mathematics graduate student.

A typical day a camp includes:

At the end of the week, a prominent woman mathematician gives a special presentation about Women in Mathematics. Following the presentation, girls will have the opportunity to meet the speaker personally.

In 2007, courses were taught by Professor Jo Hoffacker of Clemson University and Professor Kristin Pfabe of Nebraska Wesleyan, Lincoln, NE.

All girls entering grades 10-12 in the fall are invited to apply for the camp. Special consideration is given to those entering their sophomore or junior year in the fall and who have successfully completed high school geometry.

The All Girls/All Math Program is one of ten Young Scholars Programs across the nation which are supported by the American Mathematical Society. It was also included in the Ultimate Guide to Summer Opportunities for Teens as 1 of 200 of the best summer programs for teens across the nation. Ultimate Guide to Summer Opportunities for Teens.

What former participants have said

The women instructors and assistants made a big impression on me.
I think there are few camps that could teach me more than I have learned this week.
Math has always been my favorite subject, but I've realized all the possibilities and I'm even more excited about it.
The camp gave me a great challenge and an awesome experience.
It was one of the most fun times of my life!
I just wanted to write and say how wonderful this camp was for my growth in mathematics and for my confidence in expressing myself in the fields of math and science. I took AP Calculus BC my senior year and was one of the only people who knew how to work the calculators (partly due to this camp). I will be attending Cornell University this fall and majoring in Biological Engineering, a field that I might not have considered if I had not attended your camp. Thank you so much for your encouragement and for the great memories.
